Worship at our Church encompasses a wide range of feelings and experiences; the hope of Advent, the joy of Christmas and Easter, the grief of Good Friday, the excitement of family baptisms and confirmations, and the emotions of weddings and funerals. Like candles, banners, and stained glass windows, in the Protestant tradition music helps lead us on an emotional faith journey. Our styles of music are as varied as the worship experience. There is reverence and majesty in Handel's Messiah; faith and determination in traditional American hyms and gospel music; beauty in the music of contemporary composers like John Rutter; and playfulness in the love of God expressed in rhythmic African processions. All have a place in both performed and participatory music in worship services at First Presbyterian Church.

Most often our Sunday services include a prelude and postlude played by organist Janet Holmes on our Casavant Frères Opus 3748 pipe organ, an anthem performed by the Sanctuary Choir directed by Dennis Keller and congregational hymns from the most recent edition of the Presbyterian Hymnal. Frequently one of our bell choirs plays an additional anthem, or one of the children's choirs sings. Often we also have soloists or chamber ensemble, or a contemporary form of music during the offertory.
